All children are awesome. But what makes a child awesome? He is awesome because he is made in the image and likeness of the awesome God. And what does it mean to be made in the image and likeness of God? That means, among other things, that that person is able to have a relationship with God. We as humans can relate to God in a way that dogs, and cats, and birds and horses cannot. And God highly values every person who has a relationship with Him.
Why else are children awesome? Because each one lives in a body so complex and sophisticated that it could only have been designed and engineered by an omnipotent, omniscient Creator. Every cell in the child’s body has a built-in, unique, sophisticated, coded library of information which could only have been designed and written by God. This coded library contains incredibly complex instructions that direct every organ and tissue of the body in their automatic development. This coded library is referred to as “Thy book” in Psalm 139:16, “Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in Thy book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them.” Many centuries latter, man discovered God’s coded library and started to call it DNA.
Why else are children awesome? Because God has a purpose for each one. Every child is born into this world with sealed orders. In God’s time those orders are to be revealed to direct a person into the work which He has assigned to him. God has perfectly designed the child for the assignment which is later to be revealed. Everyone’s assignment is important, and only that child can do the work which has been assigned to him. Only Moses could lead Israel out of Egypt. Only David could slay Goliath. Only King Solomon could build the first temple in Jerusalem. Only Queen Esther could save her people from Haman. Only Jesus could die for our sins. If that child doesn’t complete his assignment, that assignment will never be completed by anyone else.
Why else are children awesome? Because Jesus Christ loved that child so much He was willing to die for him. God knew every child before he was created. God knew all about that child’s faults and flaws and sins and failures long before the child was born, but Jesus still determined that that child is worth dying for. The closer we walk with God, the more we will think like He thinks and love what He loves. We will love children because God loves them. Actually, it is not really us loving the children. It is God in us loving the children.
