God told the prophet Jeremiah, “Before I formed thee in the belly, I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee” (Jeremiah 1:5). God says that it is He who forms the baby and brings the baby to term. God knows the baby before that baby knows himself. If God made the baby, that means that God loves it and that He has a purpose for it and that he owns it.
God doesn’t wait for the baby to be born before He starts to love him. God had a loving relationship with that child even before it was conceived, in anticipation of his existence. What God loves the devil hates because that child is made in the likeness of God. But Satan cannot destroy that child on his own. Satan has to recruit human agents in order to do his evil work for him.
That’s why Satan sends his agents into our school to convince young people that there is no God. If there is no God, that means that there is no authority to determine what is right and what is wrong. Everyone determines for himself what is right or wrong. Therefore, if for any reason, I don’t want that “thing” that’s growing inside of me, why shouldn’t I go to an abortion clinic and get rid of it? After all, since there is no God there is no judgment and there is nobody to give account to.
But if there is a God, that’s a whole different story. If there is a God, that means that the life growing inside me is not mine to destroy because it belongs to the God who made it. If there is a God, that means that God loves the life He is creating inside of me. If there is a God, that means that I will have to give an account to God for what I do with the life that He put inside me. That also means that He has a purpose for the life which He is creating.
Since God loves that new life which He creates, the situation in which it is conceived does not take away from His love for that life. No child is responsible for the circumstances in which it is conceived or for the situation that it is born into. There is no such thing as an illegitimate child, because God made it and because God has a purpose for it. There is no such thing as an unwanted child, because God loves it. If I am a Spirit-filled child of God, then I will also love that baby because it will be the God inside me who is loving that baby.
