A godly father is a gift from heaven. During the formative years of infancy, a godly father will set the direction for the chid’s life. Of course, as the child grows in understanding and awareness, he will make his own choices and will be responsible for them. However, if the father makes the right choices for the child when the baby is too young to make choices for himself, the child is much more likely to choose wisely when he is of age.
There is a very good reason why God has chosen to call Himself, “FATHER.” God is the perfect model which every human father should aspire to. God is the perfect example of wisdom and patience, holiness and faithfulness, firmness and mercy. Of course, no human father will ever attain to the perfection of our Father in heaven, but every earthly father can pray to the Heavenly Father, “Lord, make me more like You. Help me do your work the way You want it done.” Indeed, no father can do his job right with out constantly asking God for help.
Satan is also a father. As Jesus said to the wicked, hypocritical religious rulers of His day, “Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own for he is a liar, and the father of it” (John 8:44). Satan hates his children. He deceives and misleads his children. Whoever believes and obeys Satan is rewarded with eternal damnation in the lake of fire.
God, on the other hand, is filled with infinite love toward His children and is very merciful toward their faults and failures. All the infinite wisdom of heaven is used in favor of the children of God. Those who choose God as Father are rewarded with a home of eternal glory in Heaven. A godly human father, however imperfect he may be, will do much to influence the child from earliest days to make the right choice and to decide, “I want to grow up to be like my dad. I want his Heavenly Father to be my Heavenly Father.”
